Exercise for Health: Osteoporosis

Written by James Gorman

Exercise is a cornerstone for health and wellness. However, not all exercise is good for you. This is especially true if you have a health condition.

In which case . . . A one-size-fits-all is rarely an optimal approach.

That doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy and benefit from group exercise training or any other type of physical activity. You just need to have a foundational understanding of your health condition in relation to exercise.

A good example of this is osteoporosis. If you’ve ever trained with me 1:1 or in a group setting then you’ll know that I place a big focus on rotational movements.

However, for people who have osteoporosis, rotational movements present risk of fracture, especially in the thoracic spine. Just knowing this allows the individual to adapt the exercise and reduce risk of injury. This is just one example.

My point is, if you have a health condition, it's important to research and understand how it relates to exercise.
